The hate mail has already started pouring in about my review of American Gangster, Ridley Scott's heavily hyped, Oscar-contending gangster saga. That's mighty presumptuous of you, Nick, regarding American Gangster. I respect your opinion, but I would expect that you're intelligent enough to be above making such sweeping assertions. You may not care, but you appear to be in the minority on this. Overall critical and popular opinion on this is substantially positive. I've also seen the movie, and I liked it. Again, I respect and can understand what you wrote in your review, but I wish you wouldn't say things like, "If they'd only watch it, they would agree with me."

My comment came from the fact that most of the hate mail I'd received was from people who hadn't yet seen the film. My intention wasn't to imply that anyone who sees the film will automatically agree with my opinion. If it came off that way, my bad.
