Kevin Smith goes all gooey on us, and the results aren't pretty. And since when do New Jersey video store clerks look like Liv Tyler?!?! Anyway, my review of Jersey Girl is now up at Slant magazine.

The love of money may not be the root of all evil, it's at least the root of all bad Kevin Smith films.
Apparently you can take the boy out of New Jersey *and* New Jersey out of the boy.
I can't think of a witty third diss, except maybe he died after Chasing Amy and Miramax replaced him with a vapid double: http://digilander.libero.it/p_truth/

Smith does try to lavish love on Jersey. The problem is, the Jersey of "Jersey Girl" is just some strangely generic suburbia. It's as if he's forgotten what makes the state so distinctive...
But if he really has been replaced by a double - and man, that website is insane - let's hope that the double learns how to operate a camera better than the original Smith did...
