Pitch Black was a respectable sci-fi thriller, but its sequel - this Friday's The Chronicles of Riddick, starring the Lou Ferrigno-esque Vin Diesel as a badass anti-hero who can see in the dark - is overstuffed sci-fi pretentiousness at its worst. My Slant magazine review turns the lights out on this dud...
Lou Ferigno, and not even Arnold? Ouch. At least Arnold got speaking roles after the first movie.

Other then Fast and the Furious (and that's debatable), has Vin Diesel done anything of note? I just saw "A Man Apart" on Starz! a couple of nights ago. It sort of felt like a poor man's Bad Boys, without the humor and with Larenz Tate as the Martin Lawrence short black guy part. Garbage.

Every time I see Vin Diesel snarl, I immediately think of Lou Ferrigno. And I firmly believe Ferrigno was a better actor.
Given that he's headlined nothing worthwhile, it's amazing that Diesel is still considered a big star. Hell, I prefer 2 Fast 2 Furious. Tyrese rules!
