I've been busy reviewing in this, my last weekend in NYC before making the move out to Stamford, CT next week. For filmcritic.com, I've got a positive review of Russian Ark director Aleksandr Sokurov's new film Father and Son, as well as a brutal critique of next month's The Door in the Floor, a repulsive adaptation of John Irving's novel "A Widow For One Year" starring Jeff Bridges and Kim Basinger.
Meanwhile, over at Slant magazine, I slam the idiotic Dodgeball but effusively praise Mike Hodges' new neo-noir gem I'll Sleep When I'm Dead - possibly the best film I've seen this year.

Is it possible that Ben Stiller just ran out of good jokes?
P.S. You need to update: http://www.nickschager.com/about.html with your MA (as in Masters of Arts, not yo momma).

My problem with Stiller is that, for the most part (but not, strangely, in Dodgeball), he resorts to the same joke - being caught in an awkward dilemma that usually involves his genitals or some other bathroom humor-related situation. Sigh.

I actually read "A Widow for One Year" Usually I enjoy Irving adaptations (Cider House Rules, World According to Garp etc.) but to be honest, that book didn't seem like it would go so well on the big screen.
Congrats on the MA and the move to Stamford.
