Given that Bruce Willis' latest opens today, I figured I'd pass along links to a few high-profile releases, including Live Free or Die Hard. The real gem here is Ratatouille, yet another sterling Brad Bird (and Pixar) effort, though fans of extreme, inane action probably won't be disappointed by the return of John McClane.
This Week:
Ratatouille (Slant magazine)
Live Free or Die Hard (Slant magazine)
Future Weeks:
Talk to Me (Slant magazine)
And check back over the weekend for my thoughts on Evening, License to Wed, and Michael's Bay's newest aggro extravaganza Transformers.
I sort of prefer Wiseman's latent commentary to something like Land of the Dead's ("We don't negotiate with terrorists! ... sigh), while I found the fight scenes with Maggie Q not only hilarious (yeah, I'll admit it - I've commended enough "girly" films to merit the merriment anyways; conveniently though, those were also good films) but also a bit melancholy, another in the many scenes that implicitly ushered out McClane's brand of inane belligerence, even if the prevailing mood of that scene was self-consciously humorous action.
Good luck with The Transformers movie (wink), I plan to be enjoying Ratatouille myself.
