Well, despite my best intentions, this blog hasn't had a proper review-link update in two weeks. And I've got no excuse, except to say that I've been crazy busy writing.
Anyway, of this latest batch of critiques, particular attention should be paid to The Wrestler, Tokyo Sonata and, um, not The Secret Life of Bees. Because it's just such a brutal, brutal film.

It's okay -- we forgive you.
Glad to see Aronofsky's "The Wrestler" getting such good reception; once I saw your take on it, I knew that I'd nothing to fear. Already I suspect some Best Actor attention for our leading man. FYI, if you recall the female character of "the pharmacist" in the film, that's a fellow HS graduate of mine.

I remember a male musclehead who acts as Rourke's illegal "pharmacist," but I don't recall a woman playing any such character. My memory is, it seems, overloaded with film info at the present moment.
Rourke will definitely get an Oscar nod. Given the current lack of competition, he might easily win one too...
